Forensic Information Databases Service (FINDS) - part of the Home Office
The Forensic Information Databases Service (FINDS) Unit in the Home Office manages national forensic databases on behalf of Policing. As these forensic databases (physical, data records or biometric) are essential tools that support the Criminal Justice System it is essential that records held on these databases are accurate, correct and therefore reliable. FINDS play an important role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of records held on these databases.
The databases we currently monitor, manage and oversee corrections for are:
- National DNA Database (NDNAD).
- National Fingerprint Database (IDENT1).
- The National Footwear System – incorporating the National Footwear Database.
- The Police National Computer (PNC).
