1st July 2026 marks the 125th anniversary of Forensics within the Met.

As part of events to mark this milestone, this keynote will consider our past and our future, from the pioneering moment where Sir Edward Henry created the Fingerprint Branch at New Scotland Yard, through the solving of famous crimes and celebrated cases, to the development of 21st century digital capabilities.

In 2026 forensics remains the critical element of investigations that was envisaged back in 1901 – innovation and technology applied through science to protect the public. As we pass 125 years consideration turns to what comes next: our future demands, opportunities and capabilities.

This keynote forms part of a wider celebration taking place throughout Forensics Europe Expo 2026.

Throughout FEE 2026, visitors can experience heritage-focused exhibits, historic Metropolitan Police vehicles, special anniversary content and networking celebrations, providing a unique opportunity to reflect on the journey of forensic science from the Fingerprint Branch of 1901 to today's digital forensic capabilities.
