For 125 years, forensic science has supported policing in London, helping investigators understand events and bring
offenders to justice. Over time, methods have evolved from early laboratory work and fingerprint identification
to advanced digital and scientific techniques. Today, the Met’s Forensic Services (MO4) cover a wide range
of disciplines, all working together to support investigations across the capital. This anniversary provides an
opportunity to reflect on that history and recognise the contribution of those who have developed these services. It
also looks ahead to the future, where forensic science will continue to play a vital role in keeping London safe.
